We stayed at Lake View Hotel from Sunday to Wednesday morning. It had a nice location. There was bike parking by the hotel. The staff was wonderful! It had nice porches to sit and relax on. Great hotel to people watch from. The room was nice. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The pillows were flat and uncomfortable. The indoor pool was nice but cold. The Turtle played loud music below our room during the day into the evening. That was not that relaxing after being out and doing activities on and off throughout the day.
Took quite a while to get our bags after check in. That held us up from enjoying our short stay. That's my biggest complaint. We love the rooms, and the fact that it's a hotel instead of a bed and breakfast. I don't think they serve complimentary breakfast, and for the price of the rooms I wish they would. I still recommend staying here. We like to come in the early fall to hopefully find a deal. Also it's much less busy around that time as well.
I highly recommend the Lake View Hotel on Mackinac Island for several reasons (Guest from 7/19-7/23). 1) The location: it is only a few minutes walk after you arrive on the ferries docks which makes it perfect for coming and going. It is also is adjacent to a wonderful restaurant and dozens of shops as it overlooks the main strip. 2) The rooms: I had the best sleep in months while staying at the Lake View. They have quiet hours between 8am-10pm which assured some hard Zs and I did not hear anything from the outside streets despite overlooking them. We also had our beds made daily and the towels refreshed. The water pressure in the showers was nice as well! 3) The Incredible Service: Dan, Maria and Amanda were some of the most competent and professional staff I've come across. They were polite, chipper and accommodating. The also had spot on suggestions for food, coffee and things to do. You can tell that Dan (manager) loves his work and cares for his staff. I highly recommend the Lake View Hotel on Mackinac Island for the above reasons.
Our family has been staying on Mackinac Island for about 8 years on Labor Day weekend. This was our first time staying at Lake View Hotel, but it will likely be our last!
The rooms were perfect for our family, the hotel was in a prime spot (downtown, but on the edge where it is quieter), there was an awesome pool and hot tub, the balconies were so nice, and the room rates were high, but spot on for the location and amenities. We had planned to make this our new place to stay moving forward.
The reason we can't stay here again was the initial price we paid over Labor Day weekend 2023 was just at the top of our budget. For Labor Day weekend 2024 the price is increasing by over 21%. We could barely afford to stay this year and now have been priced out despite really enjoying our stay and thinking we found a new home away from home.
The reason they are giving is that they are remodeling the hotel and the rooms. What I suspect is that they are passing almost all of the cost of doing this directly onto the customer and for folks that are not wealthy, we just can't afford it.
If you have the cash or have the ability to save for a place like Lake View, do it! We hope that someday along the line the rates will return to normal and we can stay again, but until then we will return to the Inn we typically stay at on the Island.
We stayed 3 nights and had the best time. The daily maid service was exceptional. The hotel, pool area and lobby were very well maintained. The hotel was located near the ferry, our luggage was delivered right to our room.
In the heart of downtown. Beautiful hotel with heated pool and hot tub. While we were there, they we cleaned daily. Our double queen room was large and clean. There was no fridge or microwave. No problem, just a note. Front desk staff was friendly, and porters were super helpful with the luggage to and from the dock. The only complaint is that the coffee service is 530am to 730am only. That's insanely early. At least give us until 10. :) Otherwise highly recommend!
Liked · Wonderful hotel in the perfect location. Gorgeous and modern on the inside with beautiful décor. It was a quick walk from the ferry and nestled in between bars, shops and restaurants. The room was clean, had comfortable beds and a beautiful updated bathroom. The room itself a bit outdated. Check in was easy and they offered free luggage check so you could check out but still explore the island. They have a wonderful front porch with seating that over looks the street. Watched an amazing thunderstorm safely and comfortably.
Disliked · There are only steps to access the building, so it's not very handicap friendly. The pool was always packed with kids and closed early. It would be nice if they would have an adult swim as other hotels usually do. Coffee was only served super early in the morning, from 5-7am I believe. A coffee bar should be open and accessible later, if not all the time. The offer a luggage check but it was about a 15 minute wait time to check or pick up your bags.
This hotel is in a great location, close to Sheplers Ferry, and on the end of the block so close enough to all the restaurants and fudge shops but out of the busiest part of the street. Three great porches for enjoying the scenery and wonderful weather. Rooms are very nice and very clean. Felt safe and comfortable during our stay.
Older travelers- the toilets are low and there are no bars next to toilet to assist getting off toilet and there are no safety bars in showers. We were in a regular room not a handicap accessible room but these features would have been nice in a regular room. Also, the blinds on the doors facing the pool do not block out all the light so if you want a dark room at night, ask for a room not overlooking pool.
